Police arrested Bir Bahadur Ghalan, in charge of the district committee of the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, immediately after he was released on bail by the Makwanpur District Court on Monday.
Security personnel detained Ghalan from the court’s main gate as he stepped out after posting a bail to the court. Ghalan was arrested earlier on April 11 from Hetauda-8 on the charge of possessing explosives. The court freed him after he had paid a Rs18,000 bail as demanded on Sunday. Ghalan also paid Rs60,000 to the District Administration Office as penalty on the arms and ammunition charge.
Police Inspector Sagar Bikram Rana, spokesperson for the district police, said Ghalan was held again for another case. Police filed another case against him for torching a vehicle at Hetauda-19 during a recent general strike of the CPN.
Talking briefly to reporters on the court premises, Ghalan asserted that Nepali people were not safe from the government’s atrocities. Ghalan criticised the government for its double standard—urging the CPN for talks and intimidating its activists.
The local administration has arrested seven CPN leaders and cadres in the district so far. Four persons, including Ghalan, are still in
custody.
