BIRATNAGAR: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has asserted that his party won’t let the Media Council Bill be endorsed in the legislature. “Nepali Congress strongly opposes the government’s attempts to weaken press freedom and the National Human Rights Commission. We won’t enforce banda, but we will disrupt the parliament to foil the bill,” the NC chief told reporters in Biratnagar Airport on Saturday. He added that formulating the law to muzzle free press is against the spirit of the constitution. Addressing a function organised in Biratnagar later, Deuba defended his party leadership and claimed that the NC was shrunken during the 2017 elections due to factionalism, intolerance and indiscipline among the party leaders and activists.
