POKHARA: The Nepal Army and the US Army Pacific have jointly launched disaster response exercise and exchange of cooperation. At a press meet organised on Sunday, Brig Gen Jit Bahadur Gurung of the NA Disaster Management Directorate said representatives from 12 countries, including the US, the UK, Thailand, Mongolia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were invited for the participation. As part of the weeklong programme, various events as talk show and group discussion on disaster management would be held, he said. Four such programmes have been organised in Nepal at the joint initiation of the NA and US Army Pacific since 2011. This is the first time that Pokhara has been chosen for the programme. US Army Pacific’s Major Jonathan Syer expressed hope that the programme would help reduce disaster risk in Nepal. A total of 220 persons, including the representatives from the agencies concerned, have participated in the programme, said the organisers. The programme was inaugurated by Minister for Internal Affairs and Law of Gandaki State Hari Bahadur Chuman. (RSS)
