Picture a dimly-lit room, its contents in disarray. Books are strewn about haphazardly, bedcovers are in shambles, shards of a broken vase lie on the floor. The ceiling has been pulled low, creating a claustrophobic space and a sense of being trapped. There are sounds of marching boots, an insistent pounding on a door and then, a wailing cry.

The Beauty of Bangladesh, first solo show of Bangladeshi artist Rashedul Islam is currently on display at the Mithila Yain Gallery in Thamel. The exhibit comprises almost entirely of watercolour landscapes—some of lush pastures and others of the mangrove estuaries that typify the Bengal delta.

An exhibition of paintings by Prithvi Shrestha is currently ongoing at the Siddhartha Art Gallery, Babarmahal. Shrestha is the first recipient of the Himalayan Light Art Scholarship, which was established by Chinese artist, Zhao Jianqui to support contemporary Nepali art. Zhao had presided over the inaugural event as chief guest last week.

Between Two Points is an ongoing joint exhibit by Yajyu Manandhar and Michael Gordon at Gallery Mcube in the Capital. The exhibit explores themes of impermanence, abstraction, and the potential for spontaneity. Most works on display are composed of found materials making the city both the subject of the works and the medium for expressing them.
