President, Vice President to be elected through a vote

The Parliament switched to the majority process with the deadline for consensus-based elections ending on Sunday.
As per the election programme published by the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat, the time for registering candidacies for the posts of President and Vice President has been fixed from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm Tuesday. The voting will be held at the Parliament on 15:00 pm on October 28.
The major ruling party CPN (UML) has nominated party Vice Chair Bidhya Devi Bhandari as the Presidential candidate on behalf of the party.
The major opposition Nepali Congress has, however, not unveiled the name of possible candidate for the race for the presidency. It has already announced that the party had been competing in the election for the post of new President.
Likewise, the major coalition partner of the UML-led government UCPN (Maoist) has announced the candidacy of Nanda Kishor Pun, former chief commander of the then People's Liberation Army, for the election of Vice President. Other political parties have not yet announced their candidacies for the post of Vice President.
