Prime Minister KP Oli has said that the government has an ambitious plan to attain rapid economic growth. Addressing a meeting of National Development Council in the Capital on Sunday, PM Oli said that the country will not be prosperous without setting such an ambitious goal.

In the meeting called to discuss the government’s fourth phase plan, PM Oli said the government has proposed ambitious plans for making swift economic strides in shorter period.

“Some people are saying this government has become highly ambitious,” he said, “Yes, we have become ambitious and it is necessary for national interests.”

Hinting at the opposition parties’ criticism over government’s policies and programmes, PM said, “How can the country achieve its objectives if goals are not set?”

 PM Oli mentioned that the fourth phase plan aims to guarantee employment and independence to people. This is also a part of the strategy to minimise the trade deficit, said Oli.

Also speaking at the programme, Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel said that programmes for higher and sustainable economic development have been incorporated in new plans.

“Programmes that require cooperation between government, cooperatives and private sector will be introduced for economic prosperity,” Poudel said.

National Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Yuvraj Khatiwada said the new policies are aimed at connecting villages and urban areas on the basis of production and consumption. He also noted that new programmes have given priority to reconstruction.

The National Development Council meeting that will continue till Monday will outline new strategy for economic development. Representatives from all government ministries are participating in the meeting.
