How abnormal is the normal (Watch videos)
An experiment with gender role reversal - comprising a mix of invisible theatre, short film and animation —will see the stereotypical gender roles reversed, in a bid to show how abnormal the normal truly is when seen from a different perspective. In this 7-part video series, an experiment with gender role reversal, we will be looking at some common scenarios in Nepali society, with a twist. Each installment—comprising a mix of invisible theatre, short film and animation —will see the stereotypical gender roles reversed, in a bid to show how abnormal the normal truly is when seen from a different perspective. The idea is to deconstruct the set norms around what girls/women or boys/men can or cannot do, should or shouldn’t do.
We are, however, not condoning the actions or behavior shown in these videos or in any way seeking to offer moral advice—we are hoping to trigger people to think from a different perspective by exposing how “abnormal is the normal,” how gender expectations are normalised in society and culture, and how shocking things can be when these roles are flipped. This video series is a collaborative initiative between UNDP Nepal and The Kathmandu Post.
