Amnesty International on Tuesday denounced the government’s reluctance grant justice to Ganga Maya Adhikari who is on hunger strike for the last 21 days since she launched a fresh protest.

In a statement on Tuesday, the global human rights body said, “It is very unfortunate that victims of the war-era crimes like Adhikari are compelled to take extreme choice of hunger strike to remind authorities of their lawful duty to take legal actions against the perpetrators.”

It reminded the Nepal government its obligation under both national and international laws to investigate and take action against the perpetrators.

Amnesty International Nepal Chair Rajan Prasad Kuikel said, “Amnesty International Nepal is aware of the ongoing dialogue between Prime Minister of Nepal and the Chairperson of NHRC to find a way out to save Adhikari’s life whose health reportedly has deteriorated seriously.

“We urge the authorities to pave the way for justice to Adhikari and rest of the victims of the conflict-era human rights violations, including through implementation of Supreme Court’s decision.”
