According to Asian Football Confederation (AFC), men’s football will be held from August 14 to September 1 in Jakarta and Pelambang.
Altogether 24 participating teams are divided into six groups. The top two teams from each group and four best third placed teams will make to the pre-quarterfinal rounds.
Nepal have already named 20-member squad. Goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong, forward Bhara Khawas and midfielder-cum-defender Rohit Chand are the over-aged players for the U-23 tournament.
Defending champions South Korea, Bahrain, Kyrgyz Republic and Malaysia were draw in Group ‘E’ during the draw while Group ‘A’ consists of hosts Indonesia, Hong Kong, Laos and Chinese Taipei. Thailand, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and Qatar are in Group ‘B’ and Group ‘C’ consists of Iraq, China, Timor-Leste and Syria. 2014 runs up North Korea are drawn along with Saudi Arabia, Iran and Myanmar in Group F.
Nepal have not participated in the women’s football which sees participation of 11 teams in total.
