Former Prime Minister Deuba told Dr KC that his party will always support him to address his demands.
He told Dr KC that his party would confront if the government tried to table the National Medical Education Bill by altering its major provisions to allow establishment of new medical colleges in Kathmandu Valley.
“Health is a big issue, you should be physically fit,” Deuba said, adding, “We have been piling pressure on the government from the House and street to table the Bill without amending its major provisions.”
Dr KC, who had been staging fast-unto-death for the past 20 days at the Jumla-based Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), was brought to Kathmandu for treatment following severe deterioration of his health.
The government has not made any decision yet to address the demands of Dr KC.
Earlier, talks between the side representing Dr KC and the government was deferred after the latter refused to address the demand put forth by the former to withdraw the Bill tabled in the House of Representatives.
The government had earlier formed a three-member talks team under the headship of Khagaraj Baral, Secretary at the Ministry of Education.
Dr KC and the main opposition Nepali Congress have been calling for introducing the National Medical Education Bill as per the spirit of the earlier bill, with the provision to stop providing granting affiliation to medical colleges for the next 10 years in Kathmandu Valley, which was brought by the erstwhile government while the government has been planning to endorse the bill through the parliamentary process.
