Lama wins five titles

Duana Lama made a big splash on the first day of the NSA Swimming Championship winning four gold medals in open categories to add one more title in age-group event on Sunday.

In the Open category, the Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) swimmier Lama struck gold medals in the women’s 100m backstroke, 100m butterfly, 50m breaststroke and 200m freestyle. She also struck gold in U-14 girls’ 50m backstroke event. Lama timed 1.19.94 to win the 100m backstroke gold ahead of Ayushma Tuladhar who clocked 1.21.66 and Sameera Shva Thapa (1.24.38).

Lama won the 100m freestyle in 1.15.13 seeing off the only challenger Sameera (1.28.78). She also swam clear to claim the 50m breastroke in 37.63 ahead of Upaasthi Maharjan (38.22) and Tisa Shakya (39.25. She won the 200m freestyle by default as there were no competitor in the event. Still she swam the event for a time trail which she completed in 2.23.73. In the age-group 50m freestyle, she clocked 34.19. Anushiya Tandukar (36.22) finished in second and Asjhwinin Shrestha (36.25) in third.

Aditya Surya, Anubhav Subba, Sayed Hamza Shah and Shuvam Shrestha also won gold in the open categories. Organised by the Nepal Swimming Association (NSA), the  tournament also serves as the qualifier for the 14th FINA World Championships slated for December 11–16 in Hangzhou, China.

Aditya claimed the men’s 100m backstroke title with the timing of 1.12.19 while Nasir Hussen finished in second at 1.14.90 and Dilip Thapa Magar in third at 1.17.32. Anubhav won the men’s 100m butterfly in 1.02.03 ahead of Shah (1.03.25) and Hussein (1.12.93). Shah shook off 100m fly disappointment by winning the 200m freestyle gold with the timing of 2.10.50. Anubhav (2.10.72) ended up in silver and Hussein (2.19.34) in bronze medal finish. Shuvan strolled to the men’s 50m breastroke gold with the timing of 31.37. Shah finished in second at 34.37 and Bedagyaa Raj Joshi in third at 34.45.
