RJP-N announces protest programmes on Constitution Day
Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N), which has been supporting the federal government and also formed its own government in Province 2, has announced protest programmes on September 19 against Constitution DayRastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N), which has been supporting the federal government and also formed its own government in Province 2, has announced protest programmes on September 19 against Constitution Day.
The RJP-N has sent circulars to all its district committees to stage demonstrations and organise protest rallies against Constitution Day on September 19 and stage a black out from 7pm to 7:15 pm among other protest programmes on the same day.
The letter signed by RJP-N Presidium coordinator Mahanta Thakur has been kept a secret.
RJP-N has formed its own government in Province 2 by taking part in the three-tier of elections conducted under the provision of the same constitution. RJPN has formed a government in Province 2 in coalition with the Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal (SSFN).
An 11-point decision taken by a meeting of the RJPN Presidium held for two days on Monday and Tuesday has been circulated to all its district committees stating that the party has decided to organise various protest programmes against the ‘anti-Madhes constitution’ on September 19.
Earlier, RJP-N had observed September 19, Constitution Day, as Black Day. This time the party has termed September 19 as Protest Day.
“The new constitution was forcefully promulgated on September 19 even though we had been expressing dissatisfaction from the street,” RJP-N spokesperson Krishna Singh said, adding, “The government did not hear our grievances and opened fire on protesters. That is why we will protest in any form on the Constitution Day.”
Singh, however, said that he has no knowledge about the secret circular issued by RJP-N Presidium.
