A team from the Metropolitan Police Range, Gaushala, Kathmandu arrested Sahil Thapa Magar and Bikash Dokche from Gaushala with a scooter on Friday based on a complaint filed by a Gaushala-based dance bar. Information revealed by the duo during interrogation led to the arrest of the entire group from Machhegaun, Kirtipur on Saturday night.
Other accused Indra Bahadur Shrestha, Narayan Shrestha and Raj Shrestha were arrested from their rented room in Machhegaun. “Thapa Magar and his friend were arrested after a bar filed a complaint with police that they used fake currency notes at the bar,” chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, SSP Basanta Lama told the Post. Police have confiscated fake currency notes worth Rs 29,000 that were in denomination of Rs 1000.
According to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, the fake currency notes were difficult to distinguish from the genuine ones as they were well-printed by using modern technology. Police also seized fake notes with a face value of Rs351,000 along with a printer, two bundles of paper used for printing fake notes, four mobile phones, and various colours.
“The gang used fake currency to pay in grocery shops or add couple more of it in a bigger bundle when they had to pay huge amount,” said SSP Lama. Indra Bahadur, the gang leader, has a previous criminal record. He had spent 11 months behind bars in Siraha for possession of illegal arms and ammunition. The Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu will file a case of counterfeit currency against the five.
