Nepal Student Union, the student wing of Nepali Congress (NC), staged demonstrations in Kavre and Rautahat on Monday, demanding the release of its leader Krishna Dhakal.
Dhakal, the NSU unit chairman of Tapeshwor Secondary School in Kavre, was arrested on November 6 for posting a distorted image of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on social media.
The NSU has been demanding an immediate and unconditional release of Dhakal.
As a part of the protest programme announced by the NSU central committee, the Kavre chapter of the student organisation staged demonstrations and burnt effigies in two places of Banepa.
The union also enforced a two-day educational strike in Kavre on Sunday and Monday. All the educational institutions remained closed on Monday. Thousands of students have been affected with the closure of schools and colleges.
Similarly, protesters in Rautahat burnt Oli’s effigy at Chandranigahapur Chowk despite the local police’s efforts to stop them. The demonstrators also chanted slogans against PM Oli.
