Two persons died after three heavy vehicles collided at Naya Thimi along the Suryabinayak-Tinkune road section in Bhaktapur on Saturday night.
According to the police, a bus (Ba 5 Kha 3565) en route to Kavre from Kathmandu collided with a truck (Ba 2 Kha 1654) and a tipper (Ba 2 Ka 3935) at Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-4 near the National Tuberculosis Centre in Bhaktapur killing the driver and the conductor of the truck.
The police had stopped the truck, which was behind the tipper, for a security check when the passenger bus rear-ended it.
Chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Thimi DSP Milan KC informed that the deceased have been identified as Rajendra Shrestha (driver), 34 and Sarjan Shrestha (conductor), 28, of Nala, Banepa Municipality-4 in Kavre district.
Both the victims had sustained serious injuries following the accident as the truck was sandwiched between the speeding bus and the tipper. They breathed their last while undergoing treatment at Maharajgunj-based Teaching Hospital, informed DSP KC.
Meanwhile, police have impounded the vehicles involved in the incident and detained the bus driver, Suresh Sapkota, 36, of Panauti Muicipality-3, Kavre for further investigation.
