A day after expressing his dissatisfaction over the pace of development activities during his administration’s nine-month in office, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has initiated work progress review of government ministries. Oli summoned the government ministers and secretaries on Wednesday to evaluate the work performance and progress of the ministers.
He has been holding discussions with the ministers and secretaries based on the action plans presented by the ministers during fiscal budget presentation in mid-June.
All the ministers had presented their monthly action plan to the Office of the Prime Minister (PMO) and Council of Ministers. Sources said the meeting will hold discussions on the progress made in the action plans and the work progress of the respective ministries will be rated after the evaluation of their work.
The PMO has made an arrangement of computer software that will give the data on work progress status once the details of work done in the four-month period and the past commitments are entered. The work progress of the ministries will be evaluated based on the same.
The data are being entered into the software only from mid-June. The ministries have entered the details of work done in the four months period at once.
According to PM’s Office, the three-day evaluation will ascertain the problems facing the work progress and formulate additional action plan.
The prime minister convened the work evaluation meeting in the wake of growing criticism of the government for its failure to make visible work progress. The first two-month evaluation of the fiscal budget had showed that 7 percent of the development budget was spent. Though the budget was unveiled on May 29, the government ministries haven’t been able to spend the budget as expected. The meeting will also review the ratio of budget spending.
Sources close to the Prime Minister said the meeting will also evaluate the capacity of the ministers and secretaries as this is the first average review of the ministries' work performance. Prime Minister has already expressed his dissatisfaction over the work of many ministers. The review will also help in making the decision on whether to make the ministers more accountable or opt for alternative, sources at Baluwater said.
