18 confirmed dead in Nuwakot mini-truck accident (Update)
At least 18 people were killed after a mini-truck met with an accident in Ghyangphedi of Nuwakot district on Friday evening, police said.At least 18 people were killed after a mini-truck met with an accident in Ghyangphedi of Nuwakot district on Friday evening, police said. According to Dupcheshwor Rural Municipality Chiarman Yobindra Singh Tamang, 15 of the deceased are male and 3 are female.
Police informed 16 people were injured in the accident. Of them, seven have been sent to Kathmandu in ambulance for medical treatment, while nine others are receiving treatment at local health facility.
The truck (Ba 3 Kha 3913) heading for Sisiphu from Kimtang fell off a cliff into the river at Samundratar.
Locals said around 40-45 people were aboard the ill-fated truck when the tragedy struck. The accident site is around 40-km North-East from Bidur Municipality.
A rescue team comprising security personnel from Nepal Police, Traffic Police and Nepal Army reached the incident site for rescue operation.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Gyan Lal Yadav, in-charge of Area Police Office, Samundratar, said the identities of the deceased are yet to be established.
