Six members of wedding party die in head-on collision

The Scorpio (Ba 12 Cha 3122) was returning to Shamshergunj in Sonari Rural Municipality-8 of Banke district carrying the bride from Gitanagar of Chitwan district. The incident took place at around 2am.
According to Area Police Office in Amiliya, the groom’s father Man Bahadur KC, 53, mother Bimala Khatri, 45, and relatives Bishwanath Adhikari, 49, Prabin KC, 5, Dipak Kumar Khadka, 31, and Datta Bahadur KC, 78, died in the fatal crash.
Driver Yam Bahadur Magar and Gita Devi Khatri were injured in the incident. They are receiving treatment in Kohalpur Medical College, said police. All the victims were travelling in the ill-fated jeep.
The groom and bride are unhurt in the incident as they were travelling in another vehicle.
“After taking meal in Sishaniya, the groom’s parents along with other relatives hurried to home to preparations to receive the bride. We rushed to the incident site after we heard about it. The wedding procession suddenly turned to the funeral procession,” said Jit Bahadur Khatri, a groom’s relative.
Police suspect the accident was the result of high speed and reckless driving.
Superintendent of Police Bel Bahadur Pandey said, “It seems that the accident happened due to speeding. The vehicle was on the wrong side when the incident took place.”
