Thirty five Nepali women, who were trafficked to India on the pretext of foreign employment in Kuwait and other Gulf countries, have been rescued from Bangalore of South India.
A police team deployed from Crime Branch of Indian police rescued them from the Sudha Guest House of Bangalore on December 10 and are being kept at the State House in Bangalore.
A team of Indian Police personnel from Crime Branch raided the guest house following a tip-off from the Intelligence Bureau of India stating agents are making preparations to traffic Nepali women to Gulf countries by making forged documents of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal and New Delhi-based Nepali Embassy.
Police have also confiscated fake documents of various government offices made by the agents.
Meanwhile, police have arrested four of six persons for their alleged involvement in the trafficking of women to India.
The two others are on the run and are in possession of 24 passports of the women.
New Delhi-based Nepali Embassy said that the rescued women would be sent back to Nepal after completing the court’s process.
“Their court’s process is underway. They will be sent back after completing the court’s process,” spokesperson at the Nepali Embassy Hari Odari said.
According to the rescued women, they were brought to Bangalore keeping them for few days in New Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai assuring them of employment in Kuwait among other Gulf countries.
The agents have been taking Nepali women to various parts of India with the promise of sending them to Gulf countries for jobs by making fake work permits of the Department of Labour (DoL) and ‘No Objection’ letters.
Though the Nepal government has banned women from working in the Gulf countries, human traffickers use various channels to traffic them into the banned countries, especially via India. The government had made it mandatory for Nepali women to acquire ‘No Objection’ letter from the Nepali Embassy in India before heading for the Gulf countries from the Indian cities.
Four months ago, a joint team of Delhi Commission for Women, KI Nepal and Indian police personnel rescued 16 Nepali women from a house in Munirka area of the Indian capital on Tuesday night.
