The Himalayan district of Mustang witnessed a landslide following a heavy snowfall on Wednesday. The landside occurred at Chairo in Gharapjhong Rural Municipality-2.
“Kaligandaki River was dammed briefly this morning. Later the river started flowing normally. Though a small lake has been formed, there is not risk,” said police Inspector Thaman Bahadur Rajali, who reached the site for inspection, adding, “About 20-metre stretch of the river bank has collapsed.”
A slope on the eastern side of Samagri Village along the Beni-Jomsom road section has been slide down into the river. The area where the landslide occurred has received snow up to one foot.
Locals said the landslide occurred after the snowfall as the water made its way into the area that was cracked in the devastating earthquake of 2015.
“Out of 500 metres land cracked by the 2015 earthquake, 20 metres have been slide down into the river,” said local Sakendra Gauchan, “We came to know about the incident this morning.”
