The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority is preparing to mobilise several teams under its Rapid Operation Task Force to curb and monitor irregularities in government offices.
The task force teams would be keeping a close tab on the activities of government offices across the country disguised as service seekers, the commission said.
“We have approved the working procedure for the mobilisation of task force,” CIAA Chief Commissioner Nabin Ghimire told journalists on Tuesday, noting that the occasional sting operations were not enough to discourage corruption and bribery in government offices.
“Once the government employees learn that any service seeker could be a member of the task force, they will be discouraged from delaying services and seeking bribes,” said CIAA Spokesperson Rameshwor Dangal. “The task force members will also be allowed to catch corrupt officials in the act.”
The major focus of the task force teams will be the offices where a large number of service seekers visit daily such as land offices, revenue offices and municipal offices.
According to a recent CIAA survey, people consider the land revenue offices as the most corrupt institutions followed by local government offices, survey offices, district administration offices, inland revenue offices and water supply offices.
