Two Indian climbers died on Mount Everest and Mount Makalu on Thursday night.
According to Mingma Sherpa, chairman of the Seven Summit Treks, which organised both the expeditions, Rabi Thakur died at Camp IV after returning from the Everest summit at around 10pm Thursday. He was resting at the camp.
Another climber Narayan Singh, an Indian army officer, died while returning after scaling Mount Makalu in Sankhuwasabha.
Sherpa said Thakur might have died due to lack of oxygen while he was asleep and that it could take several days to retrieve his body.
Meanwhile, Dipankar Ghosh of Kolkata, India, has been missing on Mount Makalu. “Sherpa rescuers had reached the site from where Dipankar is suspected to have gone missing, but they were unable to find him,” said Sherpa.
Earlier on Wednesday, two Indian climbers died and another mountaineer Rodrigo Vivanco of Chile went missing on Mount Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world, while returning from the summit.
