‘One ward, one model school programme’ starts in Ilam

Mangsebung Rural Municipality in Ilam has started the “One ward one model school programme” in the rural municipality with an aim to promote quality education in community schools.

Six schools of the rural municipality are being developed as model schools in separate wards in accordance with the policy and programmes of the current fiscal year.

There are a few private schools in the rural municipality. There are 32 community and three private schools in Mangsebung Rural Municipality.

According to the policy, the selected schools must adopt English-medium curriculum and manage school uniforms, textbooks, furniture and other equipment required for their students. Dikendra Edingo, chairman of the rural municipality, said that they have launched the programme for reforms in the education system.

“The programme aims to make significant achievements by making parents, students and teachers more responsible,” he said.

Authorities said that the programme will guarantee quality education also to impoverished children in the remote villages. Three secondary schools and three basic schools of the rural municipality received Rs500,000 each for the programme.

“We have also made an effective monitoring mechanism to make the programme fruitful,” said Khagendra Karki, an employee at the education section of the rural municipality, adding that the schools will be judged based on the results of Grade 8, students’ individual achievement at each level, and the efforts of teachers.
