At least 10 people died and 10 others are feared dead in two separate road accidents in Bajhang and Humla districts in the past 48 hours.
Ten people died and five others were injured when a Bolero jeep swerved off
the road and fell over a cliff at Masta Rural Municipality-1 in Bajhang on Monday. Three critically injured were airlifted to Nepalgunj while two others are receiving treatment at the Bajhang District Hospital, said DSP Surya Bahadur KC.
In Humla, a jeep plunged into the Karnali river at Kharpunath Rural Municipality on Tuesday. At least 10 people, including the deputy chief of Kharpunath Rural Municipality Sindhu Hamal Shahi, went missing in the river.
It is still not clear how many people were on board the vehicle when it skidded off the road and fell into the river about 10 metres below, said police.
The jeep was on its way to Yanchu from Kharpu. The incident site is about 14km from Simkot, the district headquarters of Humla.
Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel have been mobilised in the rescue operation. The rescue work has been difficult as there are not trained divers.
