Over 200 to race in Everest Marathon

The event manager Shikhar Pandey informed on Wednesday that almost 150 foreign athletes from 30 nations have confirmed their participation for the high altitute marathon. According to the organiser, 119 foreign athleties will compete in marathon 16 will take part in half marathon and seven others will compete in the ultra marathon. The organisers are expecting more than 50 local runners as well for the race.
The marathon will have three events: 42.195km marathon, 60km ultra-marathon and 21km half marathon. Marathon itself will have three categories: Open, Women’s and Foreigners. Top three athletes in opne marathon will earn Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 75,000. Top three winners in women’s category will get Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 while and top three in foreigners’ categories will receive 50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000.
Top three athletes in ultra-marathon will receive Rs 100,000, Rs 75,000 an Rs 50,000, while the top three in half marathon will take home Rs 50,000, Rs 35,000 and Rs 25,000.
Marathon and ultra-marathon will start from the Everest Base Camp, which lies at an altitude of 5,400m before ending at the Namche Bazaar (3440m). Half marathon will start from Dingboche, which is at the altitude of 4410m, and ends at Namche Bazaar.
