Two doctors at Janakpur Zonal Hospital have been accused of taking bribe to prepare a medical report to protect a child rapist. Two doctors at Janakpur Zonal Hospital have been accused of taking bribe to prepare a medical report to protect a child rapist.
Dr Rambha Goit and Dr VK Singh, who examined the 12-year-old victim on August 25, has concluded in their report that the girl’s hymen was intact and there were no wounds and scars to suggest that she had been raped.
But another report issued by doctors at Siraha District Hospital mentions that the girl had suffered vaginal tear consistent with sexual assault. Area Police Office in Khajuri, Dhanusha, which is investigating into the August 24 rape incident, has demanded that Janakpur Zonal Hospital inquire into the matter and take action against Dr Goit and Dr Singh. Police Inspector Sheshraj Thandar said the investigation team was surprised when the medical report from Janakpur Zonal Hospital came negative, though the suspect had already admitted to raping the girl.
The girl was raped at her home in Janaknandini Rural Municipality-2 by her 23-year-old neighbour on the night of August 24. The girl was taken to Janakpur Zonal Hospital for medical examinations on the following day.
It had taken11 days for the hospital to issue the sham report. Suspicious of the report, police had asked the girl’s parents to get her re-examined at Siraha District Hospital. The girl underwent second medical test on September 10.
