According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Basnet, the suspect was detained for investigation as per the complaint lodged by the victim’s family. Police did not disclose the perpetrator’s name stating that it could affect their
investigation.
This is a second incident of child rape to occur in Haldibari within a week.A couple of days earlier, an eight-year-old girl from Haldibari-3 was raped by a teenage boy.
Students protest demanding justice for Nirmala
KANCHANPUR: Nepal Student’s Union (NSU), the student wing of Nepali Congress, staged a demonstration demanding justice for Nirmala Pant in Mahendranagar on Monday. “It has been two months since the rape and murder of 13-year-old Nirmala Pant, but the authorities are still staging drama in the name of investigation,” NSU leader Keshav Raj Joshi said.
The NSU has warned of intensifying the protest if the authorities fail to arrest the persons who raped and murder Nirmala. The teenager was found raped and murdered in a sugar cane field on July 27, a day after she was reported missing.Police are yet to identify the people involved in the incident.
“We are looking into the case from a different angle as our previous approaches led us nowhere,” said Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Raj Ojha.He also claimed that police have achieved a significant progress in their probe.
