Indian opening pair Gaurav Tomar and Jaykishan Kolsawala ran riot once again at the TU Stadium as the duo led Lalitpur Patriots into the Everest Premier League playoffs with a 10-wicket win over Kathmandu Kings XI on Wednesday.
Kings XI played without its injured skipper Sompal Kami, influential foreign recruit Rohan Mustafa of the UAE and allrounder Amar Singh Routela and the impact was evident as it was folded for just 109 runs in 19.5 overs. Tomar and Kolsawala tore through the listless Kings XI bowling with an unbroken 115-run partnership for the first wicket as Patriots reached the target in just 10.3 overs. It was the second century stand for Tomar and Kolsawala who had also stitched 129 runs against Pokhara Rhinos in a 167-run chase.
Tomar was particularly menacing after he struck 80 off just 35 balls with nine boundaries and three sixes. Kolsawala was a calm ally scoring 27 off 28 balls with four hits to the fence.
Earlier, Kings XI was shell shocked after it lost Sagar Pun and Naresh Budhayer for ducks and Amit Shrestha (six) to be 13-3 in 3.2 overs. Stand-in skipper Kevin O’Brien took the responsibility upon himself before spinner Pawan Sarraf came up with his best. Sarraf removed all three foreign recruits of Kings XI beginning with the dismissal of its last match’s top-scorer Subramanian Anand (nine) followed by O’Brien and Pradeep Sahu—who fell for duck. O’Brien struck 42 off 33 balls with three fours and two sixes.
Siddhant Lohani was Kings XI’s next best scorer making a 25-ball 21 with a six and a four. Man-of-the-match Sarraf returned with figures of 3-22 from four overs. Rashid Khand and Yogendra Singh Karki picked up two apiece.
