President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Monday handed over the Kantipur Icon awards announced under four different categories by the Kantipur Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic wing of the Kantipur Media Group.

The KMG honoured five personalities, two jointly, for their outstanding contributions in the areas of arts and literature, socio-politics, business and economy, and science and research on the occasion of its 27th anniversary. Each winner of the biennial award was given a gold medal worth Rs500,000.

Under each category, an independent panel of judges had assessed hundreds of nomination forms and applications received through post and email. The names were rigorously scrutinised against the set criteria.

“As a leading media house of Nepal, Kantipur Media Group is an indispensable part of the country,” Chairman and Managing Director Kailash Sirohiya said at the award ceremony. The Kantipur Foundation gives away awards worth Rs2 million every two years to social leaders and inspirational personalities.

Established in 2014, the Kantipur Icon is presented to those who deserve recognition for their tireless work and dedication. (PR)
