CHITWAN: Patients and their attendants are reeling under the shortage of essential medicines for heart ailments and diabetes at the Bharatpur Hospital in Chitwan. One of the most crowded government hospitals in the district, Bharatpur Hospital has been running its own pharmacy for the past two years, but hasn’t been able to cater to the overwhelming demand for medications. Dr Krishna Prasad Paudel, medical superintendent at the hospital, admitted that the hospital is facing a shortage of some medicines at the pharmacy. “We invite tenders from various firms to supply us with medicines, and currently we have six firms working with us. However, the medical firms haven’t been able to meet our demands, hence the shortage,” said Paudel. (PR)
