The customs officials at the Tribhuvan International Airport on Wednesday arrested a Bangladeshi national with 750 grams of gold hidden in his rectum.
The individual has been identified as 25-year-old Mohammad Abul Hassan of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Hassan had flown into Nepal by a Thai Airways flight. According to the customs officials, the metal detector beeped when Hassan passed through it. The officials checked Hassan but could not find anything. They then checked Hassan with a hand-held metal detector which beeped when the device was near his abdomen area.
“We were about to take Hassan to a hospital for an x-ray but he confessed to hiding gold in his rectum,” Gajendra Kumar Thakur, chief of airport customs, told the Post. “Hassan was then asked to excrete the gold in a room at the airport.”
Hassan had hidden seven pieces of gold weighing 100 grams each and one piece weighing 50 grams in his rectum. The gold pieces were taped together.
According to the officials, Hassan had planned to flee to Bangladesh via Myanmar with the gold. “Hassan, in the preliminary interrogation, said that he was suggested by his friends to fly through Nepal citing light security checking at the Tribhuvan International Airport,” said Thakur. “Hassan had travelled to Nepal for the first time.”
On April 11, the customs officials and airport police had arrested three Chinese nationals with 3,500 grams of gold hidden in their rectum.
