Fifteen years ago, Ashok Singh Thakuri, a local youth from Thaha Municipality, Makwanpur was considering foreign employment to make a living like many other youths of his age before deciding to go into the goat cheese business.
Among the 78 workers deployed for maintenance of roads, 60 are women. They are working at Chuniya-Namtar, Phaparbari-Raigaun-Kyantin, Daman Dadabas, Gairigaun-Dadabas, and Hattisudhe-Shikharpur among other rural roads in the district.
Devi Maya Shrestha of Hetauda sub-metropolitan city in Makwanpur has been growing mushrooms using tunnel technology for the last eight years. She started with two tunnel farms and now owns 124 tunnel farms where she grows mushrooms. She has leased three bigas of land in Padampokhari, Naamtar and Nawalpur for mushroom farming.
