‘50 percent children out of school in Province 2’

Nearly 50 percent of the children of school-going age in Province 2 are still out of school. Education Minister Girirajmani Pokharel said 153, 819 children do not go to school in the province.
Speaking at a student enrolment campaign in Gadhiya, Saptari, on Wednesday, the minister said, “There are 313, 289 out-of-school children in the country. Around 50 percent of them are in Province 2.”
According to the government data, 25,515 children in Sarlahi, 24,836 in Dhanusha, 22,938 in Rautahat, 21,514 in Parsa, 20,409 in Bara, 13,434 in Saptari, 13,411 in Siraha, and 11,752 children are still deprived of education.
“The authorities concerned should work towards improving the enrolment rate and at the same time keep the dropout rate low,” said Minister Pokharel, noting that around 20 percent of the children do not continue their studies past first grade in the province.
The education minister also took the guardianship of a Dom student in Gadhiya.
He has taken the responsibility of the education of Tiku Marik at Gadhiya based Janata school.

The PM has agreed to become the school guardian of five-year-old Manisha Kumari Mallik Dom, who has been enrolled in Ramdulari Secondary School in Kalaynpur-11, PM’s press coordinator Chetan Adhikari said on Wednesday. Earlier, PM Oli, as a guardian, had enrolled another child from Mugum Karmarong in Mugu district to a local school.
