Former SWC treasurer faces corruption charge

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against former treasurer of Social Welfare Council, Manroop Shahi, on Wednesday.
In the charge-sheet filed at the Special Court on Wednesday, the CIAA has accused Shahi of deciding to give Rs. 2.5 million to New Karnali Development Center, with ill intention, against the decision of SWC's operation committee.
Shahi is also a leader of the Maoist party.
A statement issued by CIAA mentions that Shahi was found guilty of committing offence as per article 8 (3) of Anti Corruption Act.
Likewise, the CIAA has charged central Chairman Parek Bahadur Shahi, Vice Chairman Anga Bahadur Lama and Treasurer Gopal Bahadur Rawat, who were authorised to spend the fund released by the SWC, with violating the terms of agreement. The CIAA has demanded a compensation of Rs 14,23,646 from the accused.
