All-party meet kicks off
An all-party meeting summoned by Nepali Congress (NC) in its bid to forge agreement on a consensus government has kicked off at New Baneshwor in the Capital on Saturday.Ekantipur Report
President Ram Baran Yadav's ultimatum to the 30 political parties representing the Constituent Assembly (CA) to form a consensus government is ending tomorrow (February 2).
Leaders and representatives from all the 30 parties in the CA are present in the meeting. NC, the largest party in the CA, has said that it will start procedures of forming majority government under its leadership if the current endeavours for consensus government fail.
NC is planning to form a government under the leadership of its President Sushil Koirala, also the party PP leader, in partnership with CPN-UML, the second largest party in the CA.
UML, in its part, has been threatening to stay out of government if a 'respectable' position was not offered to the party in the power-sharing deal.
UCPN (Maoist), the third largest party in the CA with 80 seats, has already decided to not join the government, saying that constitution drafting was more important to the party.
