Villagers swindled out of Rs 30m
A man has reportedly swindled around Rs 30 million out of local people at Saraswati village in Hetauda-11 and run away.Pratap Bista
Laxmi Thapa, one of the victims, said Ranamagar even signed papers while receiving money from some of the victims. “Some victims are also associated with a local saving and credit cooperatives,” she said.
She said Ranamagar took the amount, saying that he needed it to run his cosmetic shop and for real estate business. Most of the victims are women whose husbands work abroad.
Hari Bahadur Ghale, another victim, said Ranamagar took at least Rs 10 million from him, adding that he borrowed the amount from a bank putting his house, land and jewellery as collateral.
Meanwhile, the victims briefly halted traffic movement along the East West Highway on Thursday demanding that Ranamagar be arrested.
The victims lodged complaint with police on Thursday.
They also informed Assistant Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Bhandari of the matter. Bhandari pledged to settle the matter, the victims said.
