Gharti sworn in as CA vice chairperson

The CA meeting elected lawmaker Gharti to the post with a majority.
Out of 489 votes cast, Gharti received 484 votes. She was elected to the CA representing the UCPN (Maoist) from Rolpa Constituency No. 2.
Most of the political parties including the Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), UCPN (Maoist), RPP-Nepal, RPP, Tarai-Madhes Loktantrik Party voted in favour of Gharti.
Earlier, the CA had elected Subas Nembang of the CPN (UML) as the CA chairman on February 18.
As per the interim Constitution, the CA chairman and vice-chairman also serve as the speaker and deputy speaker of the Legislature-Parliament.
Talking to RSS after taking oath of office and secrecy, Gharti said that she would work to create an environment conducive to promulgating the new constitution within a year.
Stating that it was necessary to move ahead by building on the foundation set by the first CA, she suggested the political parties to engage in constitution writing on the basis of consensus and collaboration.
Gharti assumed her office at the Parliament Secretariat at Singha Darbar today itself.
