SAARC Secy General calls on Indian PM
Newly appointed Saarc Secretary General Arjun Bahadur Thapa on Wednesday called on Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.Thapa apprised Singh about the ongoing activities of Saarc with particular reference to trade and intra-regional connectivity. The Saarc secretary general also informed the Indian prime minister about the offer of Nepal to host the 18th Saarc summit in Kathmandu in November 2014.
Shiv Shanker Menon, national security adviser to Singh; Sujatha Singh, foreign secretary of India; Neena Malhotra, joint secretary (Saarc) at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi; and Jawed Ashraf, joint secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, were also present in the meeting.
Indian Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh also hosted a working luncheon meeting in honour Thapa on the same day. During the meeting, both high level officials exchanged views on a wide range of issues relating to Saarc, including matters pertaining to the upcoming Saarc summit.
The executive heads of the South Asian University, Saarc documentation Centre and Saarc Disaster Management Centre, all of which are based in New Delhi, also called on Secretary General Thapa, and briefed him about their activities.
