The ongoing repair of Naubise-Nagdhunga road has come to a halt due to the agitation of crusher industrialists for the past 13 days. The businessmen have stopped the supply of sands and gravel in protest of the ‘government’s attempt to regulate crusher industries’.
The Road Division Office (RDO) in Bharatpur said the road repair work has been stalled due to the lack of construction materials like sands and gravel. “We could not collect construction materials all at once because of storage issues. Now the crusher industries have stopped supplying the materials,” said Gagal Bhandari, an engineer at the RDO. The RDO said repair of the other sections of Prithivi Highway has also been stopped due to the shortage of construction materials.
Engineer Gautam Shrestha said the repair of Kalu Pande Highway that links Malekhu and Dhadingbesi has come to a halt for the past two weeks.
The crusher industries started a strike stating that the provisions the the government is implementing are impractical. Purusottam Regmi, chairman of the Federation of Contractors’ Association, said they were forced to take to the streets due to “impractical rules”.
