Ex-PM Bhattarai takes SSP Kharel’s side
Former Prime Minister and UCPN (Maoist) leader Baburam Bhattarai has said that it will not be appropriate to take action against Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ramesh Kharel.Ekantipur Report
Leader Bhattarai made such comment at a time when the Home Ministry is preparing to take action against Kharel by transferring him for his controversial statement.
Bhattarai added he has learnt from a "credible source" that there have been monetary dealings regarding the promotion to the post of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal police.
In his latest post on Twitter post, Bhattarai has said that it would not be appropriate to take action against an honest officer who blew the whistle on such secret deals.
"I have learnt from a credible source that there have been illegal financial dealings regarding the AIG promotions. It is not proper to take against an honest officer who disclosed such nefarious practice."
Professionally skillful, SSP Kharel, during a public programme a week ago, had remarked that the Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) had been approaching the power centers with “briefcases” for their promotion to the post of Assistant Inspector General (AIG).
A three-member probe panel has been formed under the leadership of DIG Bigyan Raj Sharma of Police Headquarters, saying that Kharel gave public statement in breach of organizational policy.
However, the Home Ministry’s plan to transfer Kharel has not materialised as the Election Commission has not given its approval.
