Fin Min Mahat against directly doling out amount to CA members
Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat has said the talk of giving Rs. 50 million to the Constituent Assembly (CA) members was not true as it had been publicised.Ekantipur Report
Accepting a 14-point memorandum handed by the Young Communist League (YCL), the youth wing of the UCPN (Maoist) at his office on Tuesday, Finance Minister Mahat made it clear that although provisions have been made for allocating some budget under the heading of constituency development, he was against directly giving the amount to the CA members.
He said he was also conscious that providing additional amount would create more anomalies in the context that even the one million rupees provided in the name of the MPs' Development Fund was not being utilised properly.
The YCL memorandum, among other things, demands ending unemployment by creating employment opportunities within the country itself, providing loans at lower interest rate based on educational qualification, giving 50 percent unemployment allowance based on the salary of a junior employee working at a government office and stopping the misuse of the state treasury.
The delegation led by YCL President and CA member Ganesh Man Pun urged the finance minister to bring a pro-people budget that is capable of institutionalising the process of political change.
In return, Finance Minister Mahat gave assurances that he was working to bring a budget that is youth-friendly and one that is capable of pushing ahead the economic growth and development.
The YCL had objected to the decision taken a few days back by the Nepali Congress parliamentary board and the central working committee of its positive overtures to providing Rs. 50 million to each electoral constituency.
