Speaking at a press meet organised by Nepal Press Union in the Capital on Tuesday, DPM Singh clarified that Nepali Congress (NC) would never work against press freedom stating that since its establishment the party has been in favor of freedom of press and expression.

Addressing the issue of the press protesting over various provisions on the contempt of court bill, Singh clarified that parliament will endorse the bill only after making necessary amendments which conflicts with the press freedom.

Singh, who is also the General Secretary of NC, said that his party is not in favour of providing 50 million rupees to each Constituent Assembly members. Instead NC is in favour of providing all 250 constituencies with development project, he added. Singh further pointed out that NC parliamentarians have not demanded additional facilities.

On the occasion, Mr Singh felicitated former central presidents of Press Union Hari Adhikari, Ramesh Toofan, Kulchandra Wagle, Murari Kumar Sharma, Samir Jung Shah and Kiran Pokharel and former Press Union Kathmandu chairs Gokarna Aryal, Surendra Pandey, Narayan Aryal and Lila Raj Khanal.
