Govt seeks assistance from China, India
The government has sought assistance from the two neighbouring countries—China and India to ease the flow of Sunkoshi River which has been blocked by a massive landslide in Sindhupalchowk.Ekantipur Report
An emergency meeting held at Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar along with the security agencies decided to seek assistance from the neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Bam Dev Gautam has said that neighboring countries India and China have offered to provide any kind of technical assistance needed to solve the crisis seen after the landslide.
‘The obstructed current of water, when opened at once, might create even more hazards,” said Gautam, “It’s a highly critical situation.”
Similarly, the government has announced the region along the river bank from the incident site in Sindhupalchowk to Saptakoshi River of Saptari as the crisis-affected area, urging the locals residing in the region to move to safer areas.
Gautam further informed that around 700 security personnel have been deployed in the landslide site. Government has, likewise, directed the private sector helicopter companies to remain in stand-by position.
