Araniko highway open for traffic
Container trucks began plying on the Araniko Highway that had been obstructed due to landslides at Ramche-5 Jure of Sindhupalchowk.Transport trucks were able to leave for Kathmandu today following 32 days of work to open track of the road at the initiative of the local chamber of commerce and industry.
President of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Pradip Jung Pandey inaugurated the alternative track amidst a function here today.
On the occasion, FNCCI President Pandey expressed happiness over the effort of the private sector to resume traffic on the road while urging the government to give special attention to the highway.
The work to open an alternative track cost around Rs. 15.5 million, said former Vice-chair of Sindhupalchowk Chamber of Commerce and Industry Buddha Raj Basnet.
Some 100 container trucks that had been left stranded at Barhabise since the past 46 days are expected to reach Kathmandu later today, said Basnet.
Likewise, the part of the highway that was damaged by the Sunkoshi river in Kothe has also been repaired and is under operation since Monday.
