With limited funds, KMC revises plans for Capital
The government has decided to allocate only Rs 78.5 million for Kathmandu beautification, which is a meagre amount against Rs 500 million proposed by the KMCWith limited amount of budget at its disposal, KMC has revised its plans to give the capital city a facelift for the upcoming Saarc summit. It plans to focus its attention on waste management, infrastructure development and equipment purchase, among others. “With minimum budget granted by the government, we have to cut down our plans and focus on primary issues like cleaning the city and revamping a few monuments based at the city center,” said KMC Chief Dhana Bahadur Shrestha.
KMC plans to renovate some of the major structures in the city including Ghantaghar, Sahid Gate, Kalmochan Ghat, Sahid Park, Ratnapark, Shantibatika and Khullamanch.
“As these monuments lie along the major city roads, we have prioritised them” said Sanjay Raj Upadhyay, chief of the Road Department at the KMC. “Together with this, we also plan to clean the connecting roads linking the major routes which will be used by the arriving delegates” added Upadhyay.
For this the metropolis has also plans to purchase equipment like road broomer and tipper.
KMC also plans to construct a musical fountain at Rani Pokhari, which will be the first of its kind in the city. “This will be an attraction of our project, which will enhance the beauty of Ranipokhari” said Upadhyay.
The metropolis also plans to install solar-powered street lamps along the Keshar Mahal-Maharajgunj road. To that end, KMC has already invited tender which will be finalised within this week. “Some of the works have already been initiated under our own workforce,” said Shrestha.
KMC plans to invest Rs 180 million from its own coffer for the project which is expected to complete by the first week of November.
