CA extends PDCC's deadline till Nov 1
Oct 21, 2014-
The Constitution Assembly (CA) has extended the deadline given to its Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee (PDCC) for the third time after the major political parties failed to narrow down the differences on the key contentious issues.
The CA's PDCC charged with the responsibility to forge consensus on the disputed issues of constitution drafting has received its third extension until November 1.
The CA directed PDCC to either forge consensus by November 1 or submit a questionnaire the very next day (Nov 2) in case it failed to forge the consensus by the third extended deadline. Earlier, the deadline of PDCC had been extended twice on September 30 and October 7.
Meanwhile, top brass leaders of major three political parties—Nepali Congress (NC), CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist)—have reached Gokarna Resort to hammer out consensus on the disputed issues of constitution-writing.
It has been learnt that the meeting is focused on key contentious issues of constitution drafting like federalism, forms of governance and electoral system.
According to the CA calendar, the constitution is to be drafted by January 22.
