Pvt clinics running on hospital premises
Violating existing rules and regulations related to the health sector, private health clinics are being run on the premises of the Bheri Zonal Hospital for years.Janak Nepal
The private health clinics are operating out of the hospital building rented out by the hospital development committee itself.
On the right side of the entrance to the hospital is a clinic run Dr Shyam Sundar Yadav and on the left side is Dr Nirmal Shakya’s clinic.
Likewise, Gita Pathology and Super Ultrasound Farm are also being run in the building built on the premises of the hospital.
Bheri Zonal Hospital chief Dr Pitambar Subedi said that the clinics are being run on the premises of the hospital for years. He, however, admitted that private clinics should not operate on hospital premises as “patients may be deprived of hospital’s comparatively cheap medical treatment”.
With a flexible schedule for treatment visits, patients have no option but to get their treatment in the private clinics for comparatively higher charge as the government hospital provides OPD services from 11 am to 2 pm only everyday.
Dr Badri Chapagain, chairman of the hospital development committee, said that it is intrinsically wrong for hospital’s doctors to operate their health clinics on the premises of the same hospital.
Chapagain, however, said that it is not easy to stop private clinics from operating out of the hospital’s space as the doctors also provide treatment in pharmacies being operated by others.
“The government should make a strong provision to bar private clinics from operating out of the concerned hospital’s premises and implement it,” he said.
