Arrest murderers first, says widow
Ganga Maya Adhikari, widow of Nanda Prasad Adhikari who died during fast-unto-death demanding legal action against murderers of his son Krishna Prasad, has refused to perform the last ritesShe turned down the request of Peace Minister Narahari Acharya saying that the government should first arrest the murderers.
Acharya along with National Human Rights Commission member Sudip Pathak, Attorney General Baburam Kunwar, Inspector General of Police Upendra Kanta Aryal, Secretary at Peace and Reconstruction Minister Khum Raj Punjali on Wednesday met Ganga Maya, who has been receiving treatment at Bir Hospital, to ask for her permission to perform last rites of her husband.
Nanda Prasad had died on September 22 while on a hunger strike with his wife Ganga Maya demanding action against people involved in the murder of their son during the insurgency. Nanda Prasad’s body is kept TU Teaching Hospital mortuary in Maharajgunj. Ganga Maya ended her hunger strike on October 18 after Minister Acharya assured her of booking the culprit.
However, the government has not been able to arrest the main accused Rudra Acharya, who is believed to be staying in the UK. “We told her that process has been initiated through diplomatic channel for his arrest,” said Damodar Bhandari, spokesman for the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction. Interpol has already issued a Red Corner Notice to book the accused.
According to Bhandari, all the accused have been brought to the court as promised, except Subhadra Adhikari, who has health complication but is in constant touch.
On Saturday, police arrested Ram Prasad Adhikari, one of the accused. He has been released on bail. “The government will perform the last rites with honour once Ganga Maya agrees,” Bhandari said.
However, she insisted that her elder son Noor Prasad would perform the last rites only after the murderers are sent behind the bar. Noor Prasad is out of contact since the death of his father.
