Nepali women scale seven highest peaks
A team of Nepali Women has set world record by climbing the highest summit in each continent around the globe.With the successful climb of the highest point in Antarctica, Mount Vinson Massif, at 3pm on December 23, the Seven Summits Women team comprising seven Nepali women from diverse ethnic and social backgrounds became the first women team to scale all the highest summits in seven continents.
The members first came together to be part of the historic ‘First Inclusive Women Sagarmatha Expedition 2008’, and since then they climbed all the highest peaks in Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, South America, North America and Australia.
In her message, Shailee Basnet, who is also the coordinator of the team, expressed happiness after they climbed the seventh and their last ascent in their mission.
“A journey of seven years of struggle, commitment and team work culminated with the scaling of the highest summit in Antarctica,” she said. “It was brutally cold, cameras froze but the joy knew no bounds. The team has safely returned in the camp,” one of the team members shared in Facebook.
The campaign was supported by the government, Nepal Tourism Board, Nepal Mountaineering Association, Non-Resident Nepalis Association along with various other national and international agencies.
