PAC finds police irregularity in gold case
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Legislature-Parliament has found leads to prove police involvement in financial irregularities in a gold smuggling case.Ekantipur Report
The PAC has already recorded statements from Nepal Police IGP Upendra Kanta Aryal and Home Secretary Surya Silwal in this regard and has decided to hold discussions with Minister for Home Affairs Bam Dev Gautam.
A meeting of PAC convened at Singha Durbar on Friday raised objection after the Home Minister refused to give details of spies connected with the gold smuggling cases from past three years.
Last month the committee directed the Home Ministry to furnish details of spies from the past three years.
The evidences available with the committee reveal involvement of top officials of Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police in financial irregularities by creating fake spies in a case where 35 kilo of gold was caught while it was illegally being smuggled to Kathmandu from Khasa of China last year.
The then DIG Prakash Aryal, SP Ishwor Babu Karki, among other dozen officials, are dragged into the case for their alleged involvement in irregularities in the 35 kg gold case.
The PAC members today demanded that the top police officials involved in abusing authority should not be allowed to go scot-free.
Likewise, a PAC member Balkrishna Khand demanded resignation of Home Minister Gautam for the misconduct by the CIB officials under the ministry.
